This study presents a comprehensive four-year observational investigation conducted across multiple urban and peri-urban monitoring stations between 2018 and 2021. The research systematically measured concentrations of key atmospheric and aquatic pollutants, including carbon dioxide (CO₂), particulate matter of varying sizes (PM2.5 and PM10), sulfur dioxide (SO₂), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), ground-level ozone (O₃), and biological oxygen demand (BOD) in surface water bodies. Findings demonstrate that while certain pollutant concentrations showed a modest decline during the 2020 monitoring period, likely attributable to the global reduction in industrial and transportation activities, the overall long-term trend remains critically elevated relative to World Health Organization (WHO) recommended guideline values. Statistical analysis reveals statistically significant correlations between elevated PM2.5 concentrations and documented reductions in biodiversity indices across monitored ecosystems. The study recommends the urgent implementation of integrated environmental management frameworks, expanded use of renewable energy technologies, and stronger international policy commitments to reduce transboundary pollution. These findings contribute to the growing body of evidence supporting the need for transformative, evidence-based environmental governance at national and global scales.
